How To Set Up Your Camera

Before You Start

Before setting up your camera, ensure that your mobile device is not silenced or muted and the speakers are set to max volume. This is important because there will be an underlying frequency during the setup process that is crucial when connecting your camera to the app. The frequency's strength is affected by the volume setting, so the louder the volume setting on your mobile device, the stronger the signal. This will optimize the possibility of a successful connection. Also, make sure to be in a quiet environment during setup.

Additionally, ensure your mobile device is connecting to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Zencam cameras will not be able to connect to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network. For more information on how to connect your mobile device to a 2.4GHz network, click here.

Once this information is verified you can continue with setting up your camera onto the Zencam Security App. To continue, please follow the step by step instructions provided below. 

How To Set Up Your Camera

Step 1: Download the Zencam Security App from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Step 2: Power on the camera using the included power adapter and allow the device to initialize. Once initialized, the indicator light on the device will blink green indicating the device is ready to be set up.

Step 3: Click on Register to register for a Zencam account.

Step 4: Once a Zencam account is created, log into your account and tap the + icon in the center of the Cameras page to add a new camera.

Step 5: Scan the QR code on the back (or bottom) of your Zencam camera. If you are not able to scan the QR code successfully, you can manually enter in the serial number of the camera by tapping on the “Manually Enter Serial Number” button.

Note: Do NOT scan the QR code information directly from the box, it will not work. Please scan the QR code located on the S/N tag on the back or bottom of the camera when setting it up.

If you entered or scanned a valid serial number successfully, the model and serial number of your camera will appear automatically on the next screen. Tap the Next button to continue.

Step 6: You will be prompted to set up the camera on Wi-Fi. Press Yes, let’s set up Wi-Fi to proceed.

Step 7: You will be shown some important information in regards to the Wi-Fi setup process. It is important to note that Zencam cameras only operate on the 2.4 ghz frequency (so ensure your mobile device is actively connected to a 2.4 GHz connection). Please read this page carefully.

It is advisable to make sure you are in a quiet environment with minimal background noise and position the camera about six inches to one foot away from your mobile device. To connect the camera to your network, tap Connect

Step 8: Enter the Wi-Fi password that is associated with your network. Tap Next to continue.

Step 9: Once the setup process begins, your device will start to play a sound. This sound is crucial to the setup process so ensure your mobile device is not in mute status during setup, the speakers are at max volume, and your mobile device is within six inches to a foot away from the device. Allow the device to connect to the application. Your camera should connect successfully after about a minute or less.

Step 10: Once the camera has been successfully connected, you will be requested to enter in the camera’s password. The default password for the camera is admin.

Step 11: Tap on the “Time Zone” menu to select the specific time zone for your device. Also, if applicable, enable DST (Daylight Savings Time) by toggling the “DST” toggle switch to the on position. You can set this setting as default as well. When finished, tap “Next” to continue.

Step 12: Next, you will be prompted to change the password. Please enter in a password that is at least 8 characters long, with a combination of both letters and numbers. When complete, tap on the Save icon in the upper right hand corner to proceed.

The app will then ask you if you are sure you would like to save your settings. Tap OK to continue.

Step 13: Lastly, change the name of the camera. You can name the camera in relation to where it is located, such as “Living Room”, “Office”, or “Kitchen”. Tap the Save icon in the top right corner once finished.

Congratulations! You have now set up your Zencam camera successfully. You are now ready to enjoy your camera.
